東南アジアで最大級のヒンドゥー教の寺院「バトゥ洞窟」は、マレーシア観光で欠かせない人気スポットです。
この巨大神像の存在感とカラフルな階段の綺麗さに圧倒されます！
門手前から既にインパクトのある光景が広がりますが、この階段の先にはさらに素敵な空間が待っています。
バトゥ洞窟（バトゥケイブ）
マレーシアのランドマーク、ペトロナスツインタワーがあるクアラルンプールよりも北の方にあるヒンドゥー教の聖地です。
特徴は何といっても42.7メートルもある黄金に輝く巨大な神像、ヒンドゥー教の神様「ムルガン」がそびえ立っているのと、その横にカラフルな階段がある点だと思います。
このムルガンさんの体には300リットル以上の金が使用されているとか…！
ちなみにこのバトゥ洞窟には年に一度数十万人が訪れる一大行事があります。
それがヒンドゥー教の奇祭「タイプーサム」と呼ばれるお祭りです。
ヒンドゥー暦が基準になるので日程は毎年変わりますが大体１月下旬～２月中になることが多いです。
マレーシア国内の祝日となるタイプーサム当日は周辺道路が通行禁止になり、多くのヒンドゥー教徒がバトゥ洞窟を目指して行進してきます。
人によって感じ方は違うかもしれませんが私自身はその行進する姿に胸を打たれました。
タイミングが合う方は是非このお祭りの日のバトゥ洞窟の様子も見に行ってみてください！
広場までの道のり
私は今回Grabで行ったのですが、想像していたよりも車をつけてもらえる場所から上の写真の場所までが遠くなくてよかったな、と思いました。
ちーたろうなんとなくこういう神聖な場所って公道からかなり奥にあるイメージありませんか？笑
手前に見える鳩の大群が異常でした。。
苦手な人は結構無理かも。笑
そこまで苦手意識は無い私でも嫌でした。
ただ、どこからやってきてどの辺を歩いているのか分からないこの鳩たちがやたら人気者。
ある人は鳩の大群の中心に行ってわざと鳩を興奮させて飛び立つ瞬間に写真を撮ってもらったりしていました。（私は嫌だ）
階段とムルガンさんの横にはヒンドゥー教の寺院がありました。
見た感じこちらでお祈りをしている方が多く皆さん裸足で寺院の中に入られていたのでより神聖な場所に感じ、外から見るだけにしました。
272段の階段へ
このカラフルな階段は272段あります！
実はこの階段がカラフルになったのは2018年の工事の後からのようです！その際は賛否両論あったそうです。
そのためバトゥ洞窟に行かれる方は動きやすい服装、靴で来ることを強くお勧めします！
私は両手を空けた方がいいと思いこの日はリュックスタイルにしました。
（スリ等に十分気を付けて下さい）
ヒンドゥー教では女性が足を露出することは禁じられています。
長ズボンやロングスカートを履いて行くようにして下さい。
（一応手前で腰巻きを借りれるようにもなっています）
この階段がかなり危険！
幅が狭く、水平ではない部分が多いです。
現地の方等はビーチサンダルのようなものを履いてきている人もいましたが、
その日の天候だけじゃなく前日の雨等ににもよって階段が濡れていることもあるので、繰り返しになりますが運動靴で行くのがベターです。
日頃の運動不足と、階段が怖くてやけに体に力が入るのもあり上りきった瞬間はかなりの疲労感でした。笑
でも階段の色が変わる部分で少し踊り場のようになっていて、
少し休む場所になったり、下から上ってくる人に道を譲ったりすることが出来たのが良かったです。
階段を上りきったところから撮った写真ですが、
この階段は途中でカーブしています。
上から撮るとさらに階段の急さが伝わりますね…。
上りはしんどいしか考えられませんでしたが、下りは下りで恐怖！！！
途中手すりに掴まりながらでないと怖くて下りられないところもありました。
鍾乳洞
上りきると奥の洞窟の中に入ります。
これは帰りに撮影したので逆になりますが、
鍾乳洞に入って右手側にこのお土産屋さんがあります。
ヒンドゥー教のコンパクトな神像など信仰者向けの物から、観光客向けのマグネット等が売られていました。
そしてさらに奥に行くとこんな感じ。
鍾乳洞の裂け目から太陽が見えてすごく綺麗でした。
嘘でしょ！？というぐらいに綺麗に光が差していました！！
私が行った時間帯は朝の10時過ぎぐらい。
季節によっても変わるかもしれないので参考にならないかもしれませんが。
すごく神々しくて綺麗でした！
写真の奥にある赤い門の先にはニワトリがいてビックリ。
猿の大群
バトゥ洞窟は「巨大な神像」、「カラフルな階段」が有名ですが、
もう一つ有名なのが猿！！！
一度行ったことがある方は必ず「猿に気を付けて！」とアドバイスを下さるぐらいかなりいます。
一番いたのは意外にも広場ではなく、
階段途中の柵の部分。
もう宿り木なの！？というぐらいいっぱいいました。
食べ物や飲み物を狙ってくるので持っていく場合は見えないようにしましょう。

KTMの「Batu Caves」駅が最寄りとなり、駅から徒歩5分ほどです
ちーたろう階段を上って鍾乳洞を見て往復してくる…でざっと30分強といったところだったので、半日でKL市内から行って戻ってくる…まで出来ると思います。
まとめ
30分強の滞在でしたが、とても見応えのある場所でした！
ただ断言できるのは
子連れには不向きの場所
です。
ある程度大きくなった子ども…私の感覚では４、５歳ぐらいであれば「しんどいー」って不機嫌になりながらも最後まで上ってくれるような気がしていますが、
それ以下の年齢だと歩いて上りきるには急で幅も狭いので危険ですし、
だからと言って抱っこしながら上るのには階段数が多すぎるし、
しんどいだけではなく大人も踏み外す危険性があるのでおススメしません。
うちの子は厳しいだろうと判断し、今回は家族ではなく友人と訪れてみましたがそれで正解だったと感じています。
ヒンドゥー教の信仰者の方の中には、お父さんが子どもを抱っこして最後まで上っている方がいました…！！！（ツワモノ…！）
